It’s nice every once in awhile to step out of your box and shoot something you are completely out of touch with. Mind you there are a number of things I am very out of touch with, but with photography one of those is architecture photography. I have trouble shooting buildings and following the lines. I just think I haven’t had enough practice shooting those types of subjects.
Well, the other morning I was fed up not shooting anything. After a couple days of not shooting I go through a type of withdrawals. I start to get cranky and frustrated until i go and shoot again. Thats how I was feeling that morning. I decided I wanted to shoot the new brain institute they were building downtown. It was supposed to have crazy designs and just be totally out of the norm, so I drove there Unfortunately it was still under heavy construction. What I could see was a mind fuck on acid, that I will definitely shoot when its finished. Across the street however was the World Market Center. I had never seen the building up close, only from the freeway, but it always reminded me of a new age maximum security prison. So I thought I would check it out and see if I could shoot anything worth while.
The outside of the building facing the streets looks bland, yet awkward. You will see what I mean by how it looks likes a prison. Its the lack of windows that does it in for me.

As you can see its not aww inspiring. At least for me its not. Once you get a look from the inside of the plaza then its a whole new experience. It completely opens up into a whole new experience. I happen to be there early enough that there was really nobody around at all. Just a couple janitors walking around the area. I was shocked, it was already almost 9:00am. So anyways, once you get into the plaza area it opens up and looks like this.

There were three main buildings. A, B, C is what they were named. Easy to mark for the slow with the giant letter sculpture in front of it. The first building, A, was off to my left and labeled on the door as Las Vegas Design Center.

Building B was right in front of me. It seems the y kept all the windows and glass for the inside of the plaza. Building B was also surrounded by 2, 9 story glass walkways that connect building B with both A and C.

Building C, which was off to my right i thought had a very cool and interesting design feature, or at least because I could take a cool picture of it.

I tried to get inside and take pictures but I was rejected. Both building A and B were not open yet. I did get to walk into building C where I was no longer allowed to shoot. The security manager was very polite and thanked me for asking him if I could shoot first. I was told that the architecture was so new and secretive that I wasn’t allowed to shoot the interior for fear for someone stealing their ideas. He informed me that i was extremely lucky to get the shots that I did and that security didn’t stop me prior. I was happy enough to shoot what I could so far so I said my thanks and walked out.
I hope you enjoy these, I guess, rare photos of the World Market Center here in Las Vegas, Nevada. Enjoy!
